Overview

This session covers the AI that the largest number of clinicians already use: ambient documentation, decision support alerts, predictive risk scores, and AI-assisted inbox management. Dr. Hort uses all of them in her own practice and speaks from that: what it is like to have a system listening to an encounter and drafting the note, to receive an alert nobody requested, and to send a machine-drafted reply to a patient message. The hour includes a clinician-written and an AI-generated note set side by side, and the words she uses when a patient asks.

Presenter

Shoshana Hort, MD
Clinical Informatics
Dartmouth Health

Dr. Shoshana Hort brings 24 years of experience to her internal medicine practice at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She focuses on comprehensive primary care for adult patients, managing both routine health maintenance and chronic medical conditions.

Dr. Hort earned her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in New York and completed her residency at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 2005. She sees patients in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

  3. Explain, using patient-friendly language, how AI is used in clinical documentation, how clinicians review AI-generated content, and how patients can decline its use.
