Overview

Large language models are the AI systems health professionals use most directly and understand least. This session traces the line from early natural language processing through word embeddings and recurrent networks to the transformer architecture behind current systems. The aim is an accurate mental model, not technical proficiency: what these systems do when they produce text, why they hallucinate, and what tokenization, embeddings, attention, temperature, fine-tuning, and prompt engineering mean in practice. A live screen-shared demonstration shows prompt structure changing output, and hallucination occurring.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe, in non-technical language, how a large language model generates text including why it can produce plausible but incorrect output.
  2. Define tokenization, embeddings, attention, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and temperature.
  3. Explain how prompt structure and model parameters change the quality including reliability of large language model output.

Registration

There is no fee for attending this Webinar, and pre-registration is not required. You will find the Webinar link above on this page.
