AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (1.00 hours), CME-Designated Participation Credit (1.00 hours)

Overview

This faculty development session explores strategies for enhancing learner engagement through audience response systems (ARS) and generative AI. Participants will examine how ARS tools, including quizzes, polls, word clouds, and open-text responses, can promote active learning, identify knowledge gaps, and foster discussion and clinical reasoning. The session also demonstrates how ChatGPT can support the development of educational content, including multiple-choice questions and learner feedback analysis, while emphasizing effective prompt design and thoughtful integration of technology to create engaging, learner-centered educational experiences.

Presenter

Petra Lewis, MBBS, FAAR, FACR

Petra Lewis earned her medical degree from Guy’s Hospital in London, England. After completing her initial clinical training in the UK, she pursued a Nuclear Medicine Fellowship at Johns Hopkins, directed a clinical PET center in London for two years, and then completed a Radiology residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. She joined the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth faculty in 1998 and is currently Professor of Radiology and Obstetrics & Gynecology, as well as Vice Chair for Education in Radiology. A nationally recognized leader in radiology education, she has served as President of ACER, AMSER, and AUR, and as Education Track Chair for the RSNA. Her contributions have been recognized with numerous local and national teaching awards, including the AUR Gold Medal (2021) and the RSNA Outstanding Educator Award (2024). She has led the development of widely used educational resources, including the AMSER curriculum, STARS, Aquifer, DartRad, the ALAAR Scholarly Database and Standardized CV, and RadExam. As Senior Editor of RadExam, now used by more than 80% of U.S. radiology residency programs, she considers this among her most impactful achievements. She also co-edited the Oxford Handbook of Radiology and has published and lectured extensively on radiology education and faculty development.
