Overview

This capstone session addresses two critical aspects of launching education research: securing funding and obtaining IRB approval. Participants will learn the key elements of successful grant proposals, significance, innovation, and approach/design, and discover funding sources for health professions education research. The session provides practical strategies for navigating the IRB process more efficiently. Importantly, participants will explore how AI tools can assist with grant writing and IRB applications. The hands-on component allows participants to outline either a grant proposal or IRB application for their research project.

Target Audience
Physicians, Nurses, Pharmacists, Social workers, Dietitians, Allied Health Professionals, Educators for Medical Education & Health Science Graduate and Master's programs, Residents, Fellows, and Educators committed to advancing evidence-based practices for educational research.

Participants completing the series will be positioned to contribute meaningfully to the scholarship of teaching and learning in the health sciences. They will also be eligible for Associate Fellow status within the Geisel Academy community upon completion of the entire series, or for Member status upon attending at least four (4) sessions.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the key elements of a successful grant proposal: significance, innovation, and approach/design.
  2. Locate Health Science & Professions Educators educational grants that may be applicable to their research.
  3. Identify two strategies for making the IRB process smoother.
