Overview

Review of:

  • Traditional, complementary and integrative medicine and frameworks for application in clinical care

  • Offer experience in how mindfulness meditation practice may support people living with substance use disorder including those who have also experienced racial minoritization

  • Recent literature and how to talk with people about the use of acupuncture in treating substance use disorder

This webinar will serve as an introduction to the application of traditional, complementary and integrative medicine in clinical care for people experiencing substance use disorders. Specifically, we will highlight the role of mindfulness and acupuncture in treatment approaches.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Define traditional, complementary and integrative medicine in the context of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) care.
  2. Appraise evidence for Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) as a healing practice for impacts of SUD and experience of racial minoritization.
  3. Describe the state of the evidence for acupuncture to treat SUD.
