Primary Care Grand Rounds - Assessing Patients with Suicidal Ideation in the Primary Care Setting

DH screens for depression in primary care with the PHQ-9, which has a question on suicidal ideation. It is important to evaluate patients with suicidal ideation to determine the appropriate response.

1. Describe how to effectively assess the risk, severity, and immediacy of suicidal ideation in individuals.
2. Discuss strategies for ensuring patient safety in the clinic, particularly for individuals experiencing suicidal ideation.
3. Discuss which professionals can be engaged to assist in the assessment, support, and treatment planning for individuals experiencing suicidal ideation, including considerations for disposition.
