GastroPsychology Clinician Training

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (16.00 hours), CME-Designated Participation Credit (16.00 hours)

This program will train community health clinicians in the fundamentals of psychogastroenterology (i.e. GI psychology). This includes mental health providers, as well as other clinicians that provide care for the GI patient population including, but not limited to, primary care providers and dietitians. Course will cover the major differences among common diseases, assessment of GI symptoms, psychosocial considerations for people with GI conditions, and application of traditional evidence-based psychotherapies to GI context. Following completion of the didactic section, participants will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing case consultation.

1. Describe major differences among common GI diseases including performing a basic assessment for presenting GI symptoms.
2. Identify psychosocial factors relevant to GI conditions and adapt traditional evidence-based psychotherapies to the GI context.
3. Recognize when a higher level of care or consultation is required.
