Overview

This three-hour interactive, skills-based session gives clinicians of any discipline a talking map for effective, efficient goals of care conversations.

Led by Dartmouth Health Serious Illness Care Program faculty, the session features active learning and reflection, including progressive skills practice. Participants will leave the session with the skills and tools to begin having these conversations with their patients.

To maximize time for skills practice, prior to the session participants will be expected to: watch a short video (8 minutes) and to print out training materials.

Training sessions are virtual to allow more ready access across the New England area, and it remains interactive and high energy!

In order to participate and get credit for this activity, you will be required to have working audio and visual. If you don’t, the facilitator will ask you to leave the activity and reschedule when your technology is functional.

Please note: The virtual conference meeting access link will be emailed to registered participants 24-48 hours prior to the start of the activity.

Target Audience
Any healthcare professional who takes care of seriously ill patients.


Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the rationale for the structure of the Serious Illness Conversation Guide including its benefits.
  2. Apply recommendations suggested in the Serious Illness Conversation Guide in their patient interactions.
