Participants in Medicine Grand Rounds will be able to identify and apply the most current treatment guidelines and standards of practice to provide optimal patient care, incorporating the principles of health equity, evidence-based medicine, and innovation to achieve clinical quality and safety goals. 

Presenter
Kerrilynn Hennessey, MD

About our Presenter
Kerrilynn Hennessey, MD completed her medical degree at New York University School of Medicine, where she continued her training in Internal Medicine and served as a Chief Resident prior to training in Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University. Dr. Hennessey joined the faculty at Geisel in 2020 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. Her research spans questions related to the management of cardiovascular disease in women, healthcare quality, and equity within the field of cardiovascular medicine.

Project Report Title
LIFT: Leadership Impacts on Cardiovascular Fellowship Training

Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of this learning activity, 100% of participants will be able to describe the landscape of gender diversity among cardiovascular trainees and academic cardiovascular leadership nationally, including the association between female cardiovascular leadership and the proportion of female trainees nationally.

Presenter
Anais Ovalle, MD

About our Presenter
Anais Ovalle, MD received her Medical Degree from Universidad Iberoamericana then completed her Internal Medicine residency at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island followed by a Chief Resident year at Kent Hospital. During her Chief year, Dr. Ovalle completed the Brown Advocates for Social Change and Equity fellowship. She came to DHMC for an Infectious Disease fellowship and Leadership Preventive Medicine Residency, and she continues to work towards bridging justice, equity, and inclusion efforts in healthcare, and facilitating the transition to the practice of race-conscious medicine.

Project Report Title
Qualifying the DEIB Experiences of Trainees in a Rural Academic Medical Center

Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of this learning activity, 100% of participants will be able to recognize the level of awareness, engagement, and dialogue around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging topics at DHMC with recommendations for improvement.

Presenter
Erin L. Reigh, MD, MS

About our Presenter
Erin Reigh, MD, MS graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine, trained in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, and Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She joined the faculty at Geisel and DHMC as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Dr. Reigh has instituted several programs at DHMC in both the inpatient and outpatient setting to facilitate penicillin allergy de-labeling and improve access to first line antibiotic therapies for patients with penicillin allergy.

Pre-Operative Pilot Program for Penicillin Allergy (POPPPA)

Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of this learning activity, 100% of participants will be able to recognize opportunities to improve access to beta lactam antibiotics in patients with low-risk penicillin allergies

Presenter
Anna Schaal, RN, MSN, APRN

About our Presenter
Anna Schaal, RN, MSN, APRN received her BSN at the University of Alberta and received her Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of Vermont. She has been a hematology nurse practitioner at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center for the past 18 years, and cares for patients with both hematologic malignancies and benign hematologic disorders. Her areas of interest are quality of life and cancer survivorship.

Project Report Title
The Dixon Project. The Effect of Touch on Pain and Anxiety of Patients Undergoing Bone Marrow Biopsy

Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of this learning activity, 100% of participants will be able to identify touch as an intervention to improve the patient experience during a bone marrow biopsy procedure.

Presenter
Peter F. Wright, MD

About our Presenter
Peter Wright, MD attended Dartmouth and Dartmouth Medical School and received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He did his Pediatric Residency and Infectious Disease fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. He spent three years in the Laboratory of Infectious Disease at NIH. In 1974 he moved on to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where he was a Professor of Pediatrics, Microbiology and Immunology, and Pathology. He then came to DHMC as a Professor of Pediatrics at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

Project Report Title
Immune Responses after COVID-19 Infection

Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of this learning activity, 100% of participants will be able to describe the B cell response both systemically and in the respiratory tract in those experiencing SARS-CoV-2 infection, including the use of a natural history study to reinforce the need to develop transmission blocking SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.
