Participants in Medicine Grand Rounds will be able to identify and apply the most current treatment guidelines and standards of practice to provide optimal patient care, incorporating the principles of evidence-based medicine and innovative strategies to achieve clinical quality and safety goals.

About our Presenter
Dr. Akshay Desai received his undergraduate education at Princeton University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with an AB in Public and International Affairs. He was subsequently awarded a Rhodes Scholarship for study at Oxford University, where he completed an M. Phil. in European Politics and Society at Balliol College. Following this, he began his medical training at Harvard Medical School where he was awarded the MD degree in 1998. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. During the final years of subspecialty training in cardiology, he completed additional fellowship training in Heart Failure and Transplantation and conducted translational research in vascular medicine and diastolic heart failure under the supervision of Dr. Mark Creager. He also holds an MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Learning Outcome
Participants will be able to appropriately manage patients with worsening heart failure to limit the risk of hospital readmission, incorporating strategies for remote monitoring, optimizing pharmacologic therapy and selecting patients with end-stage heart failure for advanced therapies and palliative care.
