Overview

This activity presents an overview of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies to manage symptoms of cancer and cancer treatments. Topics include: the different categories of CAM; the efficacy of CAM practices compared to conventional symptom management practices; potential interactions between CAM therapies and cancer therapies; and nursing considerations related to CAM therapies including assessing cancer patients for CAM practices and communicating with cancer patients about CAM practices.

Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of this learning activity, 100% of participants will be able to describe the role and responsibilities of the nurse when caring for patients using complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies to manage symptoms associated with cancer and cancer treatments.
