Pediatric Grand Rounds is a professional continuing education lecture series aimed at improving health outcomes through lifelong learning opportunities. This presentation covers an overview of disorders of the gut-brain interaction (CGBI) and will educate providers on the treatment and management of symptoms in the pediatric population.

Dr. Shessler attended medical school at McGill University, Pediatric residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and is now a General Pediatrician at Dartmouth Health Manchester /Bedford and chair of the primary care pediatrics committee for Dartmouth Health Children’s.

Rachel Rooke, MSN, APRN
Pediatric Gastroenterology
Instructor of Pediatrics, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth

Rachel Rooke, MSN, is a provider in pediatric gastroenterology at Dartmouth Health Children’s. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Michigan School of Nursing. Rachel joined Dartmouth Health Children’s in 2019. She is board certified in pediatric nurse practitioner acute care.

Ellen Sejkora, PhD
Pediatric Psychologist
Connecticut Children’s

Ellen Sejkora, PhD, is a pediatric psychologist in the Division of Gastroenterology at Connecticut Children’s. Dr. Sejkora’s specializes in the treatment of disorders of the gut-brain interaction, or DGBIs. In her free time, Dr. Sejkora enjoys sailing and hiking with her family. 

1. Describe the gut-brain axis to patients and families.
2. Discuss the role of different disciplines in management of DGBIs.
3. Identify potential behavioral and relaxation strategies to support symptom management.
