Overview

As the population ages, there is a growing number of persons who suffer from dementia. In addition, there are increasing numbers of cognitively healthy individuals who are concerned about developing dementia in the future, and who want to ensure that their wishes for care will be honored even if they lack the capacity to express their wishes.

The Dartmouth Dementia Directive is a supplement to a standard advance directive for people who are currently cognitively intact but are concerned about developing dementia.

This one-hour program will review advance directives in general and the problem of diminishing capacity as dementia develops. It will introduce you to the Dartmouth Dementia Directive and explain why this can be a useful tool for persons to complete, in conjunction with their standard advance directive.

Learning Outcome
At the conclusion of this learning activity, 75% of participants will confirm their ability to utilize the Dartmouth Dementia Directive, a dementia-specific advance directive instrument, when appropriate.
