DHC Pediatric Lecture Series: Orthopaedic Oncology in the Pediatric and AYA Population

This Pediatric Lecture Series will explore important topics in pediatric healthcare that may improve child health at the individual, healthcare system, and societal levels. In this session, Stella J. Lee, MD, Sarcoma Medical Director and Associate Professor, will discuss orthopaedic oncology in pediatric and adolescent and young adult (AYA) populations. Through case-based examples, participants will explore specific diagnoses and the role of the orthopaedic oncologist in evaluating and managing these patients.

Dr. Stella J. Lee is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, fellowship trained in musculoskeletal oncology. After completing her fellowship at Harvard, she was an attending surgeon and clinical faculty at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Shadyside Hospital/Hillman Cancer Center and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) prior to being recruited to Dartmouth in September 2025. Her years in practice at a high-volume urban academic system provided depth of experience in patient care, education, and systems integration. At CHP, she prioritized availability and collaboration with all pediatric disciplines, and was a regular invited lecturer to specialties beyond orthopaedics, including pediatric hematology oncology, rheumatology, and rehabilitation. Through the CHP International department, she launched a global outreach program to provide limb salvage surgery for children with sarcoma.

As an orthopaedic oncologist, Dr. Lee specializes in bone and soft tissue sarcomas in the adult and pediatric population; metastatic disease; pathologic fractures; locally advanced cutaneous cancers; and benign tumors and tumor mimickers in the bone and soft tissues. She also treats patients with rare conditions such as osteogenesis imperfecta, histiocytic disorders, neurofibromatosis, Ollier and Maffucci syndromes, multiple hereditary exostoses, and overall complex medical situations. As the Sarcoma Medical Director at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, her goal is to expand access to excellent multidisciplinary sarcoma care to all patients in New Hampshire, Vermont, and the surrounding communities.

Dr. Lee is an alumna of Dartmouth College and is excited to be back!

Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 1.00 general continuing education credits.
