Overview

Interactive workshop whose goal is to ensure that all who interact with patients are both comfortable and confident using evidence base tools that enhance patient understanding. This one-and-a-half-hour workshop will start with a brief didactic session describing the need and the evidence underlying the teach back method. Learners will be able to describe what teach back is or isn't and will have an opportunity to demonstrate skills in a realistic role play involving communication with a patient. the workshop will be preceded and followed by a brief survey accessing knowledge, attitude and practice regarding the teach back method.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Define teach-back as a communication technique and distinguish it from other methods (e.g., asking “do you understand?” or providing written materials alone).
  2. Explain the evidence base for teach-back, including its impact on patient outcomes, medication adherence, and preventable hospital readmissions.
  3. Apply the five T’s framework to structure patient-centered teach-back conversations in clinical scenarios.

Pharmacists/Pharmacy Technicians Account Setup

If you wish to apply for ACPE credit, you will need to enter your NABP ePID# and Date of Birth in your CE Profile by following these steps:

  1. Log in to Dartmouth Health's CE portal (https://dh.cloud-cme.com). 

  2. From the My Account Menu select Profile. 

  3. Enter your Date of Birth (Month and Day).

  4. In the Credentials section, select NABP ePID# from the drop-down and enter your ID number.

  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click Submit.

Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Dartmouth Health is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 1.50 general continuing education credits.

Social Worker Account Setup

If you wish to apply for ASWB credit, you will need to enter your license number in your CE Profile by following these steps:

  1. Log in to Dartmouth Health's CE portal (https://dh.cloud-cme.com).

  2. From the My Account Menu, select Profile.

  3. Ensure your degree and profession are accurately reflected.

  4. Enter the state license type, License #, and Expiration date.

  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click Submit.

Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (1 IPCE credit = 1 CPEU).
If the activity is dietetics related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (1 hour/60 minutes = 1 CPEU).
RDs and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log.

All other learners may claim CME-designated participation credit. Consult your professional licensing board regarding the applicability and acceptance of CME-designated participation credit for programs certified for credit by organizations accredited by Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Education.

Registration/Requirements for Successful Completion
You may claim credit for successful completion of this online course. In order to claim credit, you must follow these steps:

  1. Attend the entire event.

  2. Text the 6-digit Activity Code displayed at the beginning and end of the presentation to the Text-in number (833-884-3375).

  3. Complete and submit the evaluation found in your Continuing Education for Professionals account (https://dh.cloud-cme.com - Citrix or Intranet not needed) under My Account>Evaluations.

  4. Credit will appear on your transcript instantly.
