Review of:

  • Protocols for emergent treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) in the Emergency Department (ED)
  • Linkage and coordination of AUD care from ED to outpatient settings
  • Role of peer recovery/ED care management in care planning and transitions
  • Case studies to illustrate the refocus from opioid to alcohol dependence experience

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify one benefit of utilizing emergency departments as an entry point to care for Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD).
  2. Utilize the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) score ranges to identify patients who need a comprehensive diagnosis and prioritization for treatment of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD).
  3. Appraise the role of emergency department peer support recovery coaches in linking patients to outpatient AUD medication treatment providers.
