Overview

Pediatric Grand Rounds will provide information from the scientific, quality, or public health arenas that may lead to the improvement of child health from an individual, health care system, and/or societal level. 

Presenter

Scott Hadland, MD, MPH, MS
Chief, Division of Adolescent & Young Adult Medicine
Mass General Hospital for Children 

About our Presenter

Scott Hadland is the Chief of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Mass General Hospital for Children and Harvard Medical School. He holds triple board certification in General Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine, and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Hadland has studied the potential influence of the pharmaceutical industry in physician prescribing of opioids and stimulants. He is a member of the editorial board of Pediatrics and was the 2020 recipient of the Emerging Leader Award in Adolescent Health from the American Academy of Pediatrics. His work has been published in leading journals, including The Lancet, BMJ, Pediatrics, and JAMA Pediatrics, and he has been featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, NBC News, National Public Radio, and other leading news outlets. Dr. Hadland’s research has been funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the American Heart Association, the Thrasher Pediatric Fund, the Academic Pediatric Association, and the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine.

  1. Prescribe opioids in a manner that reduces the likelihood of risk for long-term opioid use and addiction.
  2. Discuss evidence-based screening and treatment for youth with substance use disorders.
