Overview
Dr. Haughey describes the role of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in inpatient medical practice. He demonstrates how to obtain the common cardiac views in the parasternal, apical and subxiphoid windows and highlights normal anatomy in each view. He also demonstrates how to visually estimate systolic function, detect a pericardial effusion, and right ventricular enlargement. Lastly, he describes how to perform an ultrasound exam of the inferior vena cava and incorporate these findings into a clinical volume assessment.
